2026–27 Major Initiative Grants

Major Initiative Grants support larger, longer-term work that brings communities and organisations together to respond to significant challenges or opportunities and create lasting benefit in Tasmania.

This Expression of Interest (EOI) is Stage 1 of a two-stage process. Tell us about your idea, the people involved and why it is ready for the funding tier you have chosen.

You do not need a business case, detailed budget, evaluation plan or formal partnership agreement at this stage.

Write in your own words. Short answers and dot points are welcome. Word limits are maximums, not targets. We consider your initiative—not your spelling, writing style or how professionally your EOI is presented.

For 2026–27, TCF is particularly interested in Major Initiatives that:

• Bring communities and organisations together to respond to important local challenges or opportunities.
• Build the relationships, coordination and skills needed for communities to take action over the long term.
• Help more people participate, feel included and connected.
• Strengthen the places and spaces that enable people to come together, participate and build community connection.
• Develop, test or grow community-led approaches that can create lasting change.

Your initiative does not need to address every focus area. Explain the relevant community benefit in your answers.

Eligible applicants include incorporated not-for-profit organisations, not-for-profit companies, eligible school associations and Tasmanian councils. Unincorporated groups may apply through an eligible incorporated auspice organisation.

A school association may apply in its own name where it is a legally constituted entity able to enter into and meet the obligations of a TCF funding agreement. The school association must be the proposed grant recipient and the EOI must be authorised in accordance with the association’s governance arrangements.

Applicants must be based in Tasmania or deliver an initiative that primarily benefits Tasmanian communities, and must be meeting their obligations under any existing TCF funding agreements. Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status is not required.

Australian and Tasmanian Government agencies, schools and colleges, individuals, sole traders, political parties, for-profit organisations and businesses are not eligible. This does not exclude an eligible school association applying in its own name.

Applications from school associations must not primarily seek funding for core school operations, curriculum delivery, routine education activities or costs ordinarily met by a school, education authority or government agency.

Council applications must be strongly community-led and involve meaningful community participation and collaboration. Council infrastructure and capital works, routine council services and activities that form part of a council’s normal responsibilities are not eligible.

If your group needs an auspice organisation, contact TCF before submitting. You must identify the proposed eligible organisation in your EOI.

Submitting an EOI does not guarantee an invitation to Stage 2. An invitation to Stage 2 does not guarantee funding.
